ON THE WILDSIDE
Although the water in the lake is very, low and in some parts, non existent, the recent rains have attracted a variety of ducks into the area along with some water fowl. At night the whole area become a deafening cacophony of raucous sound as the frogs set up their nightly social interaction. This noise is truly deafening and must be heard to be believed and the party goes on long into the night!
There is also an amazing variety of bird life on the property including a white corella that we think is an escaped pet who is busily integrating itself with the magpies – very interesting to watch. The white tailed black cockatoos don’t want to be seen with it, neither do the 28’s so it now flies with the magpies, even when they chase away an intruding crow or a hawk who blunders too close to ‘their’ trees.
Owing to the recent rains, a few emus have invaded the property to feed on the green pickings just emerging.
After the long, dry summer the new, fresh grass also has enormous appeal for the kangaroos that are coming out of the forest in mid afternoon to graze around the dam and the cottages. |
